The Birthplace of the first Grand Lodge of England, in 1717, was in a London tavern called “The Goose and Gridiron”, located in the churchyard of St. Paul’s Cathedral.

Although it was demolished in 1894, there is an identically designed tavern, “The Cheshire Cheese” only a short distance away at 145 Fleet St. To this day, it still served the pies and puddings which made the inn famous hundreds of years ago.
